Services

Helping owner organizations deliver their projects successfully. Mark and his team advise on the following strategies and tactics related to projects and major programs.

  • Delivery and Contracting Strategy – Starting with the project’s objectives and the owner’s resources, this often starts with an analysis of delivery strategy ranging from design-bid-build to integrated project delivery – and all options in between. Selecting the appropriate contracting/payment structure that aligns with the delivery strategy is also critical. Analyzing the pros and cons of lump-sum, open-book (with/without a GMP) as well as including incentives is part of this service offering.
  • Governance Structure – implementing an effective governance structure is important for project success. Approval authorities, oversight committees and decision making processes must be documented and accepted by all project participants and stakeholders including funding bodies, lenders and governing boards.
  • Project Controls – requirements and responsibilities for cost, schedule and risk management must be implemented to monitor and report on the key aspects of the project or program and so that an early warning system is deployed. Timely data exchange, user-friendly reports and dashboards as well as visibility to all project stakeholders are critical aspects of this function.
  • Change/Claims Management – initially putting processes in place to reduce change orders and claims is critical. Processes such as proactive design review, including the operations team as well as sign-offs by reviewers and design-to-budget clauses. Even with these in place, change orders and claims inevitably occur. Mark’s team will review proposed changes, opine on entitlement, test with market and contractual rates and negotiate with fairness in mind. Timely resolution of changes and claims are also critical to minimize and longer term cost or schedule impact.
  • Construction Auditing – Mark’s extensive experience with Big 4 consulting firms has instilled a methodology for auditing contractor and consultant costs either in-flight or at near project closeout. His experience in this area typically results in a strong ROI for project owners as his team identifies non-compliant billing that the PMs and other delivery teams often overlook, usually due to their focus on project completion.

These services focus on advising consulting firms, project/program managers, contractors or others in the supply chain on how to optimize and grow their business.

  • Growth strategy – working with the leadership of a business to identify opportunities for growth in new business or how to extend business with existing clients.
  • Market assessment – prepare an independent assessment of a market segment or sector for opportunities for business growth. This analysis will identify the total market demand, competitor’s share and strategies for penetration.
  • Board/Advisor role – serving as a corporate advisor on a Board of Directors or on an Advisory Committee to help companies build their business or evaluate opportunities for efficiency.

These services focus on evaluating the process an organization follows to plan, design and execute capital projects with an eye to streamlining, and digitally enabling where possible.

  • Capital Project Process Optimization – reviewing the process that an organization undergoes from capital budgeting, through prioritization, planning, design and construction. We will the analyze the existing processes and deliverables and develop and enhanced and streamlined process, documented as you see fit.
  • Technology requirements – will work with key capital project stakeholders to define the requirements needed for enhancing or implementing a new Project Management Information System or key aspects thereof.
  • Assessment and Benchmarking – work with clients to assess and benchmark key processes, cost, schedule or other aspects of capital project delivery to identify opportunities for cost, schedule or process improvements and prepare a roadmap for implementation.
